Pay

How much do I earn?
Standard route day£180.00
Large van route day£200.00
Fuel allowance£0.15 – £0.27 / mile
Training days (3)£120 / day

Rates are per route day and include the phone allowance when you use your own phone. You invoice us as a self-employed driver (we generate the self-billing invoice for you).

When do I get paid?

Every week, by bank transfer. The first 2 weeks are held as a deposit — your first payment lands in week 3, and from then on you're paid weekly. Any fines or damages are deducted from the invoice with the evidence attached.

Am I employed or self-employed?

Self-employed. You'll need a UTR number (free to get from HMRC) and your National Insurance number. We handle the invoicing.

Van

Do I need my own van?

No. If you're 25 or over you can rent a small or large van from us for £275 per week, fully insured for the work. If you're under 25 you'll need to bring your own van (insured for hire & reward).

What if I have my own van?

Great — you keep the full daily rate with no rental. Your van must be a panel van in good condition with valid MOT, tax and hire-and-reward insurance. We'll do a quick check before your first route.

What happens when I stop driving with SPDY?

If you rent a van from us, your final payment is settled 30 days after your last day so any fines or damage can be checked. Own-van drivers are simply paid on the normal weekly run.

Requirements & documents

Which driving licences are accepted?

A full UK licence, any EU/EEA licence, or a licence from a country that can be exchanged for a GB licence (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, Japan, Korea, UAE, Ukraine and others). Licences from other countries are only valid in Great Britain for 12 months after you become a resident, so we can't accept them — apply again once you hold a GB licence.

What documents do I need?
  • Passport or ID
  • Driving licence (front and back)
  • Proof of address (last 3 months)
  • Right to work in the UK (share code / BRP / settled status)
  • UTR and National Insurance number

You upload them from your phone — the link comes in the e-mail after you apply.

Do I need experience?

No. You get 3 paid training days: 1 day at Amazon and 2 days riding with an experienced SPDY driver. A smartphone for the delivery app is required.

The job

What's a typical day?

You collect your loaded van at the Weybridge delivery station (usually early-to-mid morning), deliver your route in Surrey / south-west London using the Amazon Flex app, and return the van at the end. Most routes take 8–10 hours.

How many days a week?

Most drivers work 4–6 days a week. Tell us your availability at the information session and we'll plan the routes around it.

How fast can I start?

Apply today, send your documents from your phone, come to a short information session at the depot, do the 3 training days — many drivers are on the road within a week.
